Stowe Mountain Resort
Known as the “Ski Capitol of the East,” the Stowe Mountain Resort is a “world class” family friendly destination just a short trip from Stowe Village via the Mountain Road (Route 108). The aptly named, Mountain Road Shuttle transports visitors between these two destinations at no charge throughout the winter season. It stops at various lodging, shopping and dining spots along the way.
The ski area is comprised of two mountains, Mt. Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak (4,393 ft.) and Spruce Peak. The two mountains are connected by a transfer gondola called the “Over Easy.” Some of Stowe’s original trails were cut by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Stowe is also home to the nation’s oldest ski patrol.
With Vail’s recent acquisition of the Stowe Mountain Resort has been added to the roster of world class skiing offered by the Epic Pass, joining Vail, Park City, Whistler, Telluride, Crested Butte in the U.S. as well as international areas in Italy, Switzerland, France, Austria and Japan.
Home mountain of Burton Snowboards, Stowe is held in high esteem by skiers and snowboarders alike. It’s “front four” trails are considered by some to be the most difficult terrain in the East. Beginners to snow sports will love the variety of options offered for instruction in snowboarding, nordic and alpine skiing.
The Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center, located at the base of Spruce Peak, is a 420 seat auditorium with state of the art acoustics, audio and projections systems. The facility has hosted world renowned music, dance, comedy and theater performances.
Stowe Mountain Resort has many different types of accommodations for overnight stays as well as for sale or rent. Red Barn Realty of Vermont can help you with any of them from studio units to multi-million dollar homes with access to the resort’s many amenities. These include its club, restaurants, bars and shops, as well as ice skating, indoor rock climbing, cross-country trails, zip-line tours and more. In the summer and fall, the Toll Road or the resort’s Gondola access the top of Mt. Mansfield for breathtaking views including New Hampshire’s Mt. Washington and Canada’s Mt. Tremblant.
